The automatic water softener system operates on the ion exchange principle to eliminate calcium, magnesium, and other scaled ions from the water. As water from the carbon filter flows through the resin layer in the exchanger, calcium and magnesium ions are exchanged with sodium ions, which then enter the water. Consequently, the water leaving the exchanger is softened without any adverse effects. The Plastic Body (FRP) Softener (Resin) Filter, as depicted in the figure, plays a crucial role in this process. Cation exchange resins are employed to replace calcium and magnesium, the primary components responsible for scale formation in water. Once the resin has absorbed a sufficient amount of these ions, it undergoes a regeneration process. This process involves rinsing the resin layer with saltwater in the saltbox to eliminate hardness ions and expelling the resin from the tank with regeneration waste liquid. This ensures the restoration of the soft exchange function.
